How To Make Whiskey Sours
A couple of Summers ago, I fell in love with whiskey. Bourbon to be exact. I was in Maine at an artists retreat, camping in the forest. We had no access to a fridge, which meant no ice. Which meant no cocktails! Our only options for alcoholic libations where red wine---which is sort of gross in the humid Maine Summers---or liquor. Hence, my love of whiskey! Whiskey Sours soon became my favorite cocktail.I never order them at bars however. Most bars use that disgusting sweet and sour mix to make their whiskey sours, which is gross. I did a bit of research and found the best recipe!
The right way to make a whiskey sour after the jump...
Ingredients
- 2 Oz of Whiskey Bourbon (You could use Scotch if you prefer)
- 1 Lemon, all of the juice
- 2 Tsp Simple Syrup
Directions
Place all of the ingredients plus a hunk of ice into a cocktail shaker. Shake the crap out of it and pour into a glass. garnish with a cherry. Enjoy!

Awesome recipe. Thanks!
Great recipe. But no self respecting scotch drinker would mix scotch! Bourbon, or rye is the way to go depending on your geography.
Maybe I am not self respecting but a good scotch mixed witha good sour mix......very tasty. :)
I think sweet and sour mix is basically lemon(citrus of some sort)and simple syrup. Lmao. But ues
But yes fresh is always better!
The bars that use "sour mix" have no care for craft. I like ur recipe for camping maybye but u need real fresh made sour mix with egg white included for a serious whiskey sour. i agree with what ya mean though bro
If you add egg whites it makes it a Boston sour and not a whiskey sour just fyi
All of you are wrong. It is 1/2 lemon (juice) 1/2 lime (juice) honey to taste and Jack Black. You'll love it.
I like the part "Shake the crap out of it", that's what the old man did every time.
Cures Boredom. !!
Jill try this...2oz Makers Mark,1/2 oz lime juice, 1/2 oz lemon juice, 1oz simple syrup and 1/4 oz sprite
This recipe sounds good but can I instead mix it on a blender with crushed ice?
